Christian Science Monitor: "Ambassador Chris Stevens killed in Libya: Is Arab Spring turning against US?"

The possibility that the unleashing of liberal political-economics in the Middle East might result in a sharp, though perhaps not permanent, decline in relations between states experiencing the Arab Spring and the West has been a subject of discussion almost since the civil disobedience began.  Certainly the emergence of powerful radical fundamentalist and nationalist forces is inevitable - the key question will be whether or not they will be successful at establishing ultra-conservative states, crushed by secular authoritarians, or ultimately defeated or co-opted by liberal forces.  The longer a dam is in place, the greater the forces unleashed by the collapse of that structure - the laws of energy are irrevocable.
